SCPa Works receives BEP award to fund career awareness programs for area’s youth

SCPa Works will invest nearly $130,000 in career awareness programs in partnership with schools and businesses.

SCPa Works was recently awarded nearly $130,000 in Business Education Partnership (BEP) funding to create a strong foundational network for career planning for youth in our region, in partnership with regional schools and businesses.

The BEP funding will be used to expand outreach efforts to youth, their parents, teachers, employers and community based organizations about youth-specific employment and career education activities that are part of the BEP Program. SCPa Works and its program partners will also use these funds to coordinate and support youth career education, awareness, and planning activities in each county with funding to expand existing services.

“The BEP program funds are a critically important investment in our region’s young people,” said SCPa Works CEO Jesse McCree. “These programs support our region’s workforce by promoting employer-driven activities to prepare our youth for future careers and training.”

For the BEP grant projects, SCPa Works will be focusing on four key pillars of strategy for implementation of grant activity and programming. We are looking to fund projects that align with the Chapter 339 plans and standards, and will invest in programs that support them to include:

  • Career Awareness and Opportunities
  • School District and Business Alignment
  • Career and Technical Education/Training and range of Post-Secondary Opportunities
  • Essential Workplace Skills

Students from participating high schools from throughout the region will increase their career awareness through job shadowing, industry tours and work readiness instruction.  Employers will host students and teachers and educators for visits to their facilities to explain and demonstrate their needs.  Educators will learn through employer interaction the skills employer expects from employees.
