Survey shows workforce challenges are top of mind for many employers

Conducted by Susquehanna Polling and Research, Inc., the 28th Annual Pennsylvania Economic Survey includes interviews with 650 Pennsylvania employers and management level employees, including 325 interviews with members of the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry.

This year’s annual economic climate survey shows employers remaining very optimistic about the continued growth and stability of the economy, including record high marks given for the overall condition of the business climate. As a result, employers not only report new highs in sales growth and hiring during the last 12 months, but express unprecedented levels of optimism about the prospects for continued sales growth and hiring in coming months. However, undermining this confidence is a potential labor shortage of qualified and skilled workers – now cited by most as the single most important issue affecting employers’ ability to remain compete in today’s economy.
